Study models

What 3+1 means — and why it does not mean two degrees

In international pathway models, the numbers describe where a student completes different academic stages. They do not represent the number of degrees.

3+1

Model

Three academic years before the final stage may be completed through a local pathway, followed by the final year at the chosen overseas university.

2+1

Model

For students joining the pathway at a later stage: the relevant year at STARS plus the final stage at the chosen overseas university.

IY2 → Final Year

Model

Year 2 at STARS → the final stage of the chosen programme → a bachelor's degree awarded by the overseas university.
